Samuel Johnson and Me

Reading James Boswell's Life of Johnson is on my bucket list. I hope to start it this fall. Here's a photo taken at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Shop in London where Mr. Johnson and I hung out one afternoon. That's him in the painting. This pub was also a favorite hangout of Charles Dickens.

Wouldn't you have liked to have been a barmaid and listen in on the conversation around the table when these literary giants came in for a pint?

(Ooooo - I love your teacup picture!!)

I've read portions of Boswell's Life of Johnson, but I'll tell you, his London Journal is a bizarre, interesting, fascinating book. I couldn't put it down. So, if you're looking for more Boswell, I really recommend it. I have this sneaking suspicion that Johnson was not as interesting as his biographer.

How grand to spend an evening with those two--I would have loved it indeed!

Love the picture! I'm kind of a lackey English teacher, I guess. I almost exclusively prefer women writers!

Yes! I would even love to be there now, listening to the tourists who come in for a pint! :-)

Thanks for the comment on Kilpeck Church, Herefordshire. I love those out-of-the-way places! So much to discover.
