Looking at Summer

Magnolias, whip-poor-wills, lightning bugs, and the ever-present humidity; summer's comin'!

Red Roses and a White Picket Fence

I've always loved red roses on a white picket fence, and now I have one thanks to Cindy S.   I don't think it'll bloom all summer, but I sure am loving it right now.

Breakfast in May

What else would we have for breakfast during strawberry season?  Strawberry bread, real whipped cream, and strawberries on top, of course!  It's worth the headache I'll get afterwards from eating too much sugar!

Family Celebrations

April and May have been crazy around here as we celebrated three birthdays, two graduations, a graduation party, Mother's Day dinner, and spontaneous crab and shrimp dinners complete with fireworks.  The cooking, dishes, and laundry have seemed endless.

Tonight was the last of the family get-togethers as Dylan and Leigh Anne came over for dinner to eat crab legs, shrimp, and sausage since they couldn't make it yesterday when everyone else came.

Today Laurel and I planned the meals for the Fripp trip next week.  I am SO ready to get out of town!  I'm packing my beach trash books, about two changes of clothes, my toothbrush, deodorant, and hairbrush and that's about it.  And my computer, of course.  Can't let my blogroll build up!

We leave Sunday afternoon and get back the next Sunday for night church.  I hope to be in a near catatonic state for most of the week.  The spring is always hectic with end-of-the-year concerts, recitals, etc.  This one seemed worst than most, but Laurel reminded me that I always say that!  What would I do without her to bring me back to Earth?  Thanks, hon! Strawberry Pickin' Time!

Laurel and I showing our hands stained with strawberry juice after picking at our local farm.

I froze all I picked (subtracting the ones that got eaten first).  I have jam left from last year, so I don't need to make any. We'll probably go one more time before the season is over just to get fresh ones to eat.  Yum!  Nothing better!  I've eaten so much strawberry shortcake I'm sick of it.  We even had it for breakfast.  Such decadence!

Watchin' The Rain

What could be better than listening to a hard rain, drinking a cup of Lady Grey tea, reading a good book, and having a sweet kitty on my lap?

A New, Old Color

This is a corner in the children's bathroom.  For twenty years it's been white.  I bought a pretty, sweet Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic shower curtain with pink roses and green leaves and thought the walls would look good painted green.

I painted almost the whole room and lived with it for a few weeks.  It never did grow on me.

We were having company last weekend and I didn't want them having to use that bathroom like it was, so I painted it back white.  I think beadboard looks best white anyway.  Now I have to decide on a color for the baseboards and back of the door.  I've tried green, yellow, and pink.

I thought I'd like the pink to match the shower curtain, but the color I picked out looked like Pepto Bismol once it was on the wall.  Yuck!  I'm going to have it toned down and made a little more peachy.  I'll take pictures.
