It's now about two hours until midnight and 2009. Looking through last year's journal, I see that I only read 65 books. For many years now, I've been keeping a list of books read each year. One year it was over 100. Usually it's around 80 or so. I think this year's decline is due to two things: 1. I began this blog and spend less time reading books and more time on my own blog and reading others; and 2. I've been reading thicker books and more non-fiction.
Here are a few photos of some of my books. These are just a few places I keep books. My collection of 600+ fiction is out in my art studio. I ran out of room in the main house for them all.
The next two hours will be spent reading last year's journal, drinking hot chocolate, taking a long, hot bath while finishing Miss Buncle's Book, and watching the ball drop in Times Square.
And Laurel, I'm NOT a flake. I'm exactly where I want to be doing exactly what I want to be doing. So there!

This is wonderful. I will mine your reading lists for some new ideas. I am not a reader to the extent you are by any means, but I admire your passion and love the nourishment that comes with reading. I will continue to follow your blog with interest and when I can finish what I am reading now (Mark Helprin's "A Soldier in the Great War") and the pile I have sitting beside my bed (Joseph Campbell, "Primitive Art", David Bohm, "On Creativity") I'll find something from your list. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year.
Only 65!!! You shame me woman! I'm going to post my reading list for the year. It's so short, it won't be a long post! One of my goals for this year is to read more. I spent too much time online in 2008!
Call me about our class!
Have a great 2009! I love you!
Sounds like a lovely cozy evening, and I think I need to read some books this year as well. Reading just one will already beat how many I read last year, haha.
Your house looks so cozy, I'm thinking of moving in, so I can just read all day.
I LOVE it that you keep tally of your books. I do the same thing! I too read less this year. Weird. I want book suggestions, please!!!
