First Day of School

I sent my baby off today for her first day ever of formal schooling after being homeschooled up to this point. She's in the ninth grade. It was quite a big deal for her to get everything in order just to walk out the door. It's been so long since I've helped a child do this that it was kind of stressful for me, too. But we made it! I hope she has a great experience. I know it'll be a time of great growth and learning, and I think she's up to it.

It'll probably take a few weeks to adjust to being home alone for most of the day. I've made out a tentative schedule but am open to where God's Spirit may lead. I'm looking forward to trying out new things. I've already signed up to help in the school library and with the hot lunch program. I'm going to go to a Friday morning women's prayer group. That'll be nice. It's been several years since I've been able to participate in a prayer group.

So changes are in the air as Fall draws near. I'm planning on savoring the last days of summer by working out in the garden, taking bike rides, listening to the cicadas, and feeling the hot sun on my face.

YOU will have some sweet and quiet moments. I can't wait to hear what you think of your life now!

I hope your daughter has a great day and a great year! I'll be curious to hear how she likes formal schooling after being homeschooled ... and how you enjoy your semi-empty nest!

What a beautiful picture. I hope your sweet girl had a great day. And you, too. I can't believe school has already started somewhere.

She looks beautiful and happy :) And I know you will LOVE having some creative time to dig into your gifts and art. Designate art time and be sure to label it "work" so it is protected! I go to a weekly informal prayer shawl group, and we sit and knit/crochet and really enjoy the company. You might like something like that too!

You were homeschooling even longer than I was! Your daughter looks ready to make the transition - Congratulations on a job well done.

What a huge transition for you, too. I think you will have fun. I still feel that I am transitioning, but I am very much liking retirement and I love the time alone.

I hope school is going well for your daughter so far. I am always amazed at how soon school starts in Georgia, because it only gives us one month when all the cousins are out. I don't remember it being like that when we were growing up. I've heard it's because of UGA.

Soon my daughter will start, too--a two year IB program. This was initially because of European bureaucracy, but now I can see the good in it.

Now, let's see if this Open ID thing will let me comment...

Cheers!
