As a New Yorker *and* a Georgia native, I can relate to both of you! We used to have what CZ would call a "pigeon alarm," that is, pigeons that would "brrr" on our windowsill at sunrise. (We'd throw balled up socks at the window from our beds, but pigeons are not easily discouraged.)
And last summer when we visited Georgia, there was a Chuck-Will's-Widow (a close relative of the Whippoorwill) in the woods right next to the house that called for several nights. The first night, being a bird lover, I was delighted. Each wakeful night thereafter, increasingly less so! My, they're loud! I prefer them to be about two doors down ;-).
But *nothing* is as loud as a car alarm at three a.m. on the street below your apartment. So you and Darcie can rest assured that you're still in favorable circumstances.

Lol! That's too funny! My oldest dd hates birds! She'd rather hear a car alarm. I don't get it.
So funny! I'm so glad you are there, soaking up beauty and reality! Have a wonderful day, Debbie!
