Reading in Bed

I consider reading in bed in the early morning a great luxury. Usually I'm up, dressed, and getting on with my day by 5:30, but on some summer mornings I wake up, reach over to the nightstand, and get the book I put there the night before for just such a purpose. Yes, I preplan such a heady event in order to enjoy it before it happens. I think about it before going to sleep and smile in anticipation.

What is one of your favorite luxuries?

Reading in the morning works so much better than reading in the evening. If I read in the evening, in bed, I would fall asleep! One of my favorite things is when I awaken at 6:30, rather than the usual 5:00 AM, for I know I will feel SO much better all day long. It's amazing what an extra hour and a half can make in my attitude and productivity!
Enjoy your weekend. :-)

I read in bed in the morning my entire life ... until I had children. I still read first thing in the morning, but usually while drinking a cup of coffee on the porch. A scheduled morning read in bed is a lovely idea!

Just last night, I went back into my living room to grab the book I'm reading to purposely put it on my nightstand for the morning. It really is a luxury. A great way to start the day!

I do this sometimes if the book is really good. I like to read before bed, and if I wake up in the night I just turn on my little light and read until I'm sleepy again. I really enjoy an afternoon nap which is always preceded by a little reading. Sometimes I might read after the nap, too. I find that reading fiction while sitting up is extremely difficult. I must lay down or recline. But non fiction I can easily read while sitting up. (Is that more of a quirk than a luxury?)

Sitting out on the back patio on a cool evening is a sweet luxury. I just watch the birds.
I have books everywhere, but sometimes I don't have the "right one" where and when I want it. I should work on that!

I have enjoyed a book in bed before getting up only a few mornings since I got married. It does sound like the most indulgent and summery-restorative activity.

I feel pretty luxurious when I wake up and phone my daughter who lives three time zones earlier than I do. Even if I do it at 6 a.m., it is only 9 a.m. where she is. I like to lie under the covers and chat for an hour. This, also, is a rare treat.

Crocheting or embroidering while lying in bed is a treat for me.

I think I'm rather the opposite! :) I would never want to read in bed in the morning. I love to read in bed at night, just for a few minutes before I go to sleep. It helps my brain to slow down. In the morning, I LOVE to wake up, roll over, grab a pillow, and drift back into sleep. I'm NOT a morning person at all, so dozing and re-awaking is a luscious relaxation and helps me wake up slowly and face the day.
