A New Pet Peeve
I've noticed a trend in new fiction that's making me crazy; yeah I even throw books across the room. And that's when they don't use quotation marks. It makes the book way too hard to read.
I don't want to take time to try and figure out who's saying what and when they're saying it. Why do they think quotation marks were invented in the first place?
Here's my stand. If there are no quotation marks, I'm not reading it. Period. I say, "Put back the quotations marks!"

I haven't noticed that! Maybe it's been a while since I read through a big pile of novels. Have you read The Language of Flowers yet? You'll like it.
*Like*
By the way, don't these people have editors? Or are they self-published?
Pom Pom, no I haven't. I'll get it soon. If you recommend it, I know it'll be good!
Barbara, the ones I've seen have been from large publishers. I hope it's a trend that'll bite the dust soon!
Careless editors - like these news writers online now. That sound you hear is my head beating against a desk whilst my English teacher grandmother rolls over in her grave. Yeesh.
Oh goodness, that sounds awful. I wouldn't like it either.
I can't say I have ever read a book that left out quotation marks. I agree it would be very frustrating to read !
Hmmmm, I haven't come across these but then I don't read much new fiction. I know I'd agree with you however. And perhaps even through a few books across the room!
Yes, and maybe I should learn how to spell! Threw...not through!
You made me giggle!
I haven't noticed the lack of quotation marks, but I'll be on the lookout for them.
I have an image in my head now of you hurling an offending book across the room. It makes me grin!
