When Life Gets To Be "Too Much"

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

This reminds me of Madeleine L'Engle's circle of quiet where she goes to get away from it all. I am reading my first Berry book and am enjoying it...Hannah Coulter.

I'm not familiar with Berry, but I need to get acquainted. I liked this poem very much. I always feel so much better when I'm out walking amongst the wild things.

I enjoyed this. It is always such a stress-reliever to go out among nature and soak in the work of the Creator - and think of his undeserved grace and mercy to me.
