I need advice. I've read somewhere about how to make grout black, other than mildew, between tiny hexagonal tiles. When we put this floor in with white grout, I didn't think about how it would look twenty-two years later. It's a dingy shade of tan. I've bleached it and tried all kinds of cleaners. It just won't come white again. So I want to make the grout black. Would a Sharpie permanent marker do the trick? Any ideas or suggestions?

You could always re-grout it?
I don't know but if you regrout you might want to read Hooked On House's problem she had when she used black grout recently.
I'm not going to go to the trouble and mess of regrouting. I figure there's got to be a way to color the white grout black.
Have you looked online? Using a black sharpie sounds terribly tedious to me, but if you want to do it that way? I guess it would work. It seems there ought to be something you could sprinkle/pour on your floor that would sink into the grout, but not into the hard tile. Then you could clean it off the tile. Good luck! Can you tell I don't know much about bathroom redos?
I think you can buy stain for your grout at the home improvement store. I haven't done it, but I have friends who have, using a really dark brown, and it looks great.

I'm up for going around each hexagon with a Sharpie marker. The room is only 4'x5', so it wouldn't take that long. I'm just not sure how to proceed. I did around one tile with the Sharpie, and it looks pretty stark black. Maybe once the whole floor was done, it'd look okay.
One thing I'm NOT going to do is regrout. I'm trying to just cover up the white grout.
My Mom painted grout with black acrylic paint (watered down) once, then sealed it with clear grout sealer. I'd be worried that a black sharpie would have that "purple" twinge to it that markers sometimes have... If it's too stark, maybe a dark brown sharpie would work better...?
GO to the Tile Center in Statesboro, and buy tile grout. I think it just wipes on...you may have to seal it then. Friends say it is easy.
I think I really like the tile look! I had never really considered it as an option before. But now I will!
