I Know How She Feels

Excerpt from Traveling with Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd and her daughter Ann Kidd Taylor. Sue says, "At times like this, I feel the small curse of my introspective nature and its obstinate demands, how it wants to be allowed, wants my unhurried and undivided attention, how the moments of life insist on being metabolized and given expression. As usual, having failed to stop and tend to this unmitigated part of myself, it has stopped me."

I've always found SMK's nonfiction quite tangled. She is a true wordsmith, though. Her fiction is masterful. Dance of the Dissident Daughter was heartbreaking.

At what sorts of moments? Does the context imply that when she gets too busy for any introspection, she either gets sick or causes a personal crisis? I ask because it intrigues me, and I could so see that being the case. I'm suffering from a bit of mental indigestion at the moment, in fact ;-).

Sue Monk Kidd has been writing for quite some time, hasn't she? I think I used to read her articles in Guideposts when I was around ten years old. I've never read her as an adult, though.
