A Screened Porch

I want a screened porch. I NEED a screened porch. We have so many bugs down here in Georgia that you can't really do any relaxing or entertaining outside unless it's behind screenwire.
I took these photos on Fripp Island a few weeks ago. I think the way they incorporated the porches onto the houses by walkways and different staircases is ingenuous. The blue house is mine. I could add a porch off this little porch but would have to do away with it.

There are three porches attached to our house, but unfortunately, I only made them six feet deep; way too small to screen in. I want a room. I thought I could make a space to drive my car into with a screened room on top. That'd be double use of the space.

So what do you think? Are these cool, and would they work on my house?

I am right there with you on the screen porch thing! I wish we had one, too! Georgia does have it's share of bugs, doesn't it? On a trip to California one summer, out in the evening, I knew something was odd. "No Bugs!" lol Hope you get your porch soon!

I hear ya about the porch. We had an L shape porch on the back of our home. We squared it up and screened it in. It became much larger than we expected, but it has turned out to be perfect. I have room for a large table that can sit 10-12, a sitting area, and a daybed. It's off the kitchen so we eat out there much of the time and I have slept out there a night or two - it's wonderful. And no bugs!!! :)

Hmmmmm. You made me thankful that Colorado is so bug-free. We do have to worry a bit about mosquitoes and West Nile, but over all we don't have a lot of insects cramping our style. That little blue house of yours is beautiful. Do you spend a lot of time there?

This may be really silly...but would you be able to extend your back porch off your kitchen and then take one of the windows in the sitting area off the living room and make it a door onto the "new" porch? :) You'd have 2 entrances into the house...and a larger porch. Bear with me as I haven't seen the house in 15 years, so maybe it's not feasible, but it'd be a shame to cover up the picture perfect side door. It's so much prettier than the other pictures. Your home is so quaint and approachable. :)

I love a screened porch. In fact, when we bought this house that was our first act as owners--to add on a screened porch. It has made summer here in NC so much more bearable. I hate the AC, so life on the porch is delightful. Hope you get you one!

You are right about a screen porch..because of growing up in a third generation house and being used to screen porches, I have to have one...they are as important to me as my kitchen....now that says alot, uh?hahahah

There are those who do customization of screen porches, Debbie. They will match the design with your house so it would look cool. Call a pro to have your house checked and consult your concerns.
